Student data policy

Last updated October 10, 2026

This page is for students, parents and guardians. It lists the rules that protect a student's information. The rules are enforced in the database, so they apply to every organization the same way. The privacy policy has the full detail.

1. Your record stays with your organization

Your CBO or school keeps your record. Its staff can see it, and so can you and a parent or guardian linked to you. A university cannot read it. Other CBOs and schools cannot read it either.

2. Being listed is your choice

Your CBO can list you where universities search only after consent is recorded. If you are 18 or older, you give it. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian gives it from their own account, and you can still say no. Staff cannot give it for you.

3. What a university sees before you say yes

A handle in place of your name, your graduation year, grade, state, student types, interests, GPA band and the name of your organization. No name and no contact details. A search that matches fewer than 10 students shows no results, so that a small group cannot be used to pick someone out.

4. How your identity is released

  1. A university asks for specific details, such as your name and email, and says why.
  2. Your CBO approves or declines. If it declines, it stops there.
  3. You decide, or your parent or guardian decides if you are under 18.
  4. Only then can the university read the details it asked for.

5. Taking it back

You can revoke a release at any time and the university loses access here at once. Every release also expires after 12 months. Every time a university reads a released profile, the read is recorded.

A university may have copied your details into its own records while the release was active. Our terms require it to delete that copy when a release ends, but we cannot delete it for them. If you want to be sure, ask the university too.

6. What is never asked for

  • Race, ethnicity, nationality, ancestry, immigration status, disability or justice involvement. There is no field for any of these.
  • FAFSA forms, tax returns or financial aid documents.

7. Age

  • No one under 13 can have an account.
  • If you are 13 to 17, we email your parent or guardian a private link. Your account stays limited until they say yes.
  • From 18, the sharing decisions are yours.

8. Signing up yourself, videos, transcripts and the AI reading

  • Signing up yourself. A student can ask to join a member organization without an invitation. We ask for your date of birth first. If you are 13 to 17, nothing opens until your parent or guardian says yes through a private link we email them. Ticking a box that says you have permission is not enough. If you are 18 or older, you confirm your own email address. In every case the staff of the organization you chose must add you before you see anything of theirs.
  • If nobody confirms. A signup with no answer from a parent or guardian, or with no confirmed email address, is deleted with everything entered after 14 days. If a parent or guardian says no, it is deleted right away. You can cancel and delete it yourself at any time before you are added.
  • Introduction video and transcript. You may add one short video and one school transcript. They are optional. Only you, your parent or guardian if you are under 18, and the staff of your own organization can open them. You, or your parent or guardian if you are under 18, can delete them at any time.
  • When a university can see them. Only when all three are true: your organization shared a packet with that university, your release to that university is active, and the box for that file was ticked on that packet by you, or by your parent or guardian if you are under 18. Unticking the box, deleting the file or ending the release closes it at once. Each time a university opens a file, it is recorded.
  • The AI reading. Where it is turned on, you can ask an AI service (Anthropic) to read your transcript and suggest a GPA band, strengths, things to work on and fields of study that may fit. It runs only when you press the button, or when your parent or guardian does if you are under 18. We send the file and nothing else from your account. The results are suggestions for you and your counselor. They are not a prediction of admission, nothing on your profile changes unless you choose to apply them, and a university never sees them.
  • Financial documents. Do not upload a FAFSA, a tax form or a financial aid document. If the AI reading finds that a file looks like one, it stops and the file is deleted.

9. No one is paid for introducing you

Organizations pay a flat yearly membership. There is no fee per referral, per application or per enrollment. Your information is not sold and is not used for ads.

10. Asking about your information

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information. The fastest way is to ask your CBO or school. You can also use our request form. See the terms of use for the rules everyone agrees to.
